Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail passes through the western portion of Rye Township through state gamelands #170.
There are two small state maintained parking areas available, the smaller lot that can accomodate around 6 cars is along the south side of State Route 850 at GPS coordinates N 40.19.308 W 077.04.688.
A somewhat larger parking lot up a very narrow road that can accomodate around 8 cars can be found about 0.3 miles west of this lot and 0.4 miles north of the highway also in the State Gamelands at coordinates N40.19.363 W077.04.243.
The trail on both sides of Route 850 traverses hilly meadows and then enters the woods with steep climbs. South of route 850 there is a new Darlington shelter. South of the shelter there is a rock bench with nice view.
